Un puissant sédatif, du Diprivan, a été retrouvé dans la maison de Michael Jackson à Los Angeles, a annoncé vendredi un responsable des forces de l'ordre.

Ce responsable qui a requis l'anonymat n'a pas précisé en quelle quantité ce sédatif a été retrouvé et n'a pas indiqué si ce produit a pu jouer un rôle dans le decès du chanteur, le 25 juin à l'âge de 50 ans. Le Diprivan, également connu sous le nom de Propofol, est un produit très puissant, utilisé pour les anesthésies chirurgicales et injecté en intraveineuse.

Il n'est normalement utilisé que par le personnel médical et n'est pas prescrit pour un usage domestique, a expliqué le responsable. AP

Le train n° 003661, qui assurait la liaison Paris-Cahors, a déraillé à 15 kilomètres au sud de Limoges, plus précisément, à Vigen (Haute-Vienne) aux alentours de 20h45 selon nos informations. Trois voitures de voyageurs sont sorties de leurs rails tandis que 450 passagers étaient à bord. La gendarmerie dénombre 13 blessés dont 6 graves.

La préfecture et les pompiers évoquent une "urgence vitale absolue" pour deux d'entre eux.

Contactés par lepoint.fr, des occupants racontent. "Le train a freiné brusquement et un gros choc a retenti. J'ai vu alors une remorque en mille morceaux alors que le train était sous un pont. J'étais dans le 7e wagon et me suis dirigé vers l'avant. Au 3e wagon, les gens criaient et étaient sous le choc. Le 2e wagon était à ciel ouvert sur sa partie gauche et des débris étaient à coté. C'est comme si la remorque était tombée du pont", nous confie Romain, âgée de 23 ans. "Le train a percuté une remorque avec du foin. De la fumée entourait la rame", ajoute Loïc, 26 ans.

"On a été débarqués dans un champ. C'est horrible", assure Chimène 26 ans, qui voyageait à bord du troisième wagon. D'importants moyens ont été dépêchés. "Les gendarmes, les pompiers et le samu sont arrivés rapidement. Trois hélicoptères sont également arrivés. Des personnes sont en train de se faire réanimer", rapporte Antoine 22 ans. D'après nos informations, l'évacuation était toujours en cours à 23 h 30 alors que le trafic est interrompu dans les deux sens.

Le train Corail Téoz a quitté à 17h32 la gare d'Austerlitz à Paris en direction de Cahors où il était attendu à 22h39.

Une coïncidence et un jackpot : c'est au moment où son livre consacré à Michael Jackson était sous presse que le journaliste québécois Ian Halperin a appris la mort de la pop star. À Montréal, son éditeur, Pierre Turgeon (Transit), a stoppé les rotatives, et, en trois jours et trois nuits, l'auteur a écrit 50 pages supplémentaires sur la fin du chanteur. Résultat : avant même sa parution, le 7 juillet, l'ouvrage - intitulé Les derniers jours de Michael Jackson - suscite la convoitise des plus grandes maisons d'édition du monde. D'autant qu'il apporte des révélations troublantes. S'il écarte les soupçons de pédophilie - témoignages et documents à l'appui -, Halperin évoque l'homosexualité de " Bambi ", étayée par plusieurs ex-amants. L'un d'eux, ouvrier, raconte son aventure d'un soir avec la star dans un hôtel glauque. Surtout, Ian Halperin, qui est déjà l'auteur des biographies de Kurt Cobain et de Céline Dion, assure que Michael Jackson souffrait d'une maladie génétique rare, le déficit en "alpha 1-antitrypsine", qui entraîne des affections mortelles des poumons et du foie. Fort de ses recherches, le journaliste avait prédit, en janvier, dans un magazine américain, que le chanteur mourrait "avant six mois" faute d'une greffe pulmonaire. Il avait au moins raison sur la date...

Le journaliste Ian Halperin revient également sur les pressions subies par le chanteur en vue de tenir 50 concerts à Londres dès juillet 2009. Michael Jackson, qui souhaitait, en remontant sur scène, éponger ses faramineuses dettes avant sa disparition, n'était partant que pour 10 dates.

Le livre a déjà été imprimé à 300.000 exemplaires aux États-Unis et 50.000 en France.

In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, picnics, concerts, baseball games, political speeches and ceremonies, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States.

Background

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the American colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia.^[1] After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a committee but with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4. A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:

The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.^[2]

Adams' prediction was off by two days. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress.^[3]

One of the most enduring myths about Independence Day is that Congress signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.^[4] The myth had become so firmly established that, decades after the event and nearing the end of their lives, even the elderly Thomas Jefferson and John Adams had come to believe that they and the other delegates had signed the Declaration on the fourth.^[5] Most delegates actually signed the Declaration on August 2, 1776.^[6] In a remarkable series of coincidences, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, two founding fathers of the United States and the only two men who signed the Declaration of Independence to become president, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the United States' 50th anniversary. President James Monroe died exactly five years later, on July 4, 1831, but he was not a signatory to the Declaration of Independence.

Observance

In 1777, thirteen guns were fired, once at morning and again as evening fell, on July 4 in Bristol, Rhode Island. Philadelphia celebrated the first anniversary in a manner a modern American would find quite familiar: an official dinner for the Continental Congress, toasts, 13-gun salutes, speeches, prayers, music, parades, troop reviews, and fireworks. Ships were decked with red, white, and blue bunting.
In 1778, General George Washington marked July 4 with a double ration of rum for his soldiers and an artillery salute. Across the Atlantic Ocean, ambassadors John Adams and Benjamin Franklin held a dinner for their fellow Americans in Paris, France.
In 1779, July 4 fell on a Sunday. The holiday was celebrated on Monday, July 5.
In 1781, the Massachusetts General Court became the first state legislature to recognize July 4 as a state celebration.
In 1783, Moravians in Salem, North Carolina, held a celebration of July 4 with a challenging music program assembled by Johann Friedrich Peter. This work was titled "The Psalm of Joy".
In 1791 the first recorded use of the name "Independence Day" occurred.
In 1870, the U.S. Congress made Independence Day an unpaid holiday for federal employees.^[7]
In 1931, Congress changed Independence Day to a paid federal holiday. The residents of Vicksburg, Mississippi, celebrated Independence Day for the first time since July 4, 1863, when the Siege of Vicksburg ended with a Union victory during the American Civil War.

Independence Day is a national holiday marked by patriotic displays. Similar to other summer-themed events, Independence Day celebrations often take place outdoors. Independence Day is a federal holiday, so all non-essential federal institutions (like the postal service and federal courts) are closed on that day. Many politicians make it a point on this day to appear at a public event to praise the nation's heritage, laws, history, society, and people.

Families often celebrate Independence Day by hosting or attending a picnic or barbecue and take advantage of the day off and, in some years, long weekend to gather with relatives. Decorations (e.g., streamers, balloons, and clothing) are generally colored red, white, and blue, the colors of the American flag. Parades often are in the morning, while fireworks displays occur in the evening at such places as parks, fairgrounds, or town squares.

Independence Day fireworks are often accompanied by patriotic songs such as the national anthem "The Star-Spangled Banner", "God Bless America", "America the Beautiful", "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", "This Land Is Your Land", "Stars and Stripes Forever", and, regionally, "Yankee Doodle" in northeastern states and "Dixie" in southern states. Some of the lyrics recall images of the Revolutionary War or the War of 1812.

Firework shows are held in many states, and many fireworks are sold for personal use or as an alternative to a public show. Safety concerns have led some states to ban fireworks or limit the sizes and types allowed. Illicit traffic transfers many fireworks from less restrictive states.

A salute of one gun for each state in the United States, called a salute to the union, is fired only on Independence Day at noon.^[8]

Major displays are held in New York on the East River, in Chicago on Lake Michigan, in San Diego over Mission Bay, in Boston on the Charles River, in St. Louis on the Mississippi River, and on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. During the annual Windsor-Detroit International Freedom Festival, Detroit, Michigan, and Windsor, Ontario, host one of the world's largest fireworks displays, over the Detroit River, to celebrate both American Independence Day and Canada Day.

While the official observance always falls on July 4th, participation levels may vary according to which day of the week the 4th falls on. If the holiday falls in the middle of the week, some fireworks displays and celebrations may take place during the weekend for convenience, again, varying by region.

Annual events

Originally entitled Yankee Doodle, this is one of several versions of a scene painted by A. M. Willard that came to be known as The Spirit of '76. Often imitated or parodied, it is a familiar symbol of American patriotism.

America's Freedom Festival at Provo, in Utah, is one of the largest freedom festivals. It includes one of the largest Independence Day parades, and the Stadium of Fire.^{[citation needed]}
Every year in the U.S.A., the Rainbow Family gather for prayer for World Peace. With attendance ranging from 10,000 to 25,000 or more participants, most refer to it as Interdependance Day as all live in primitive conditions by choice, in State Forests and rely upon one another for the first week of July. Participants on Independence Day pray, meditate, or are silent on the morning of Independence Day, ending in a verbal group expression, Aum or Om. The Rainbow Gathering takes place annually for the first week of July.
The Midwest's largest fireworks display, called "Red, White & Boom", happens on the last weekday before Independence Day in downtown Columbus, Ohio. An estimated crowd of 500,000 to 750,000 attend and thousands more people view the fireworks display in HD on NBC Columbus, which is synchronized to music by 97.9 WNCI.^{[citation needed]}
The town of Bristol, Rhode Island is noted for having the oldest continuous Independence Day celebration in the United States (since 1785).
James River Assembly in Ozark, Missouri, hosts the annual "I Love America" Celebration at the Springfield Underground. In 1997, 13,000 people showed up for the first event. In 2006, 120,000 people attended the celebration. Highlights include the choir's "Living Flag", the "Concert in the Sky", nearly 100 games and activities, and a four-hour air show.
A colorful Independence Day event is the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York City, which supposedly started on July 4, 1916 as a way to settle a dispute among four immigrants as to who was the most patriotic.
New York City also hosts the famous Macy's Fireworks display over the East River, televised nationwide on NBC.
In Boston, a fireworks show is held over the Charles River Esplanade with the Boston Pops playing in the background. In recent years it too is televised nationwide.
The International Freedom Festival is jointly held in Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario during the last week of June each year, as a combined celebration of Independence Day and Canada Day (July 1). The festival culminates in a large fireworks display over the Detroit River.
Numerous major league and minor league baseball games are played on Independence Day. Since 1959, NASCAR has held the Coke Zero 400 (formerly the "Firecracker 400") on July 4 or the Saturday of Independence Day weekend.
On the Capitol lawn in Washington, D.C., a free concert, "A Capitol Fourth", precedes the fireworks and attracts over half a million people annually.
The City of Urbandale, Iowa celebrates the biggest nationwide celebration in a location with a population less than 50,000
Seward, Nebraska is known for its Independence Day celebration. Dating back to 1868 they have honored and celebrated Independence Day, the 2008 celebration will mark its 140th celebration.
The annual 10 kilometer Peachtree Road Race is held in Atlanta.
Since 1912, the Rebild Society, a Danish-American friendship organization, has held a July 4th weekend festival that serves as a homecoming for Danish-Americans in the Rebild section of Denmark.^[9]

Le 4 juillet 1776, à Philadelphie, où ils sont réunis en congrès (en anglais, «Convention»), les représentants des Treize Colonies anglaises d'Amérique du nord proclament dans l'enthousiasme leur indépendance.

Unilatérale, c'est-à-dire non reconnue par la métropole, cette proclamation va déboucher sur une guerre mettant aux prises les Insurgents, minoritaires, et les troupes anglaises renforcées par les colons loyalistes.

L'idée d'une résolution fondamentale disposant que les «États-Unis sont, et doivent en droit être, des États libres et indépendants» revient au Virginien R.H. Lee. La résolution est appuyée par John Adams, délégué du Massachussets (l'un des inspirateurs de la Tea-party). Un comité de cinq membres est aussitôt chargé de rédiger le texte.

Le principal auteur de la Déclaration d'Indépendance est le président du comité, Thomas Jefferson, un riche planteur propriétaire de nombreux esclaves, notamment assisté de John Adams et Benjamin Franklin.

La Déclaration énonce en des termes voués à l'immortalité le droit de tous les êtres humains à la quête du bonheur :

«We hold these truth to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness»

L'anniversaire de ce jour a mérité de devenir la fête nationale des États-Unis d'Amérique même s'il n'a pas consacré l'indépendance effective du pays. Celle-ci attendra le traité de Versailles.

Il faut dire que les deux tiers des 2,5 millions d'habitants des Treize Colonies restent fidèles à la couronne britannique et au roi George III ou au moins indifférents aux revendications des Insurgents (insurgés). Parmi les loyalistes figure le propre fils de Benjamin Franklin, l'un des héros de l'insurrection.

La guerre ne fait que commencer entre l'armée des Insurgents, placée sous le commandement de George Washington, et les armées loyalistes et anglaises, renforcées par de nombreux mercenaires allemands.

Retentissement européen

L'insurrection et la déclaration d'indépendance ont un très grand retentissement dans la noblesse libérale d'Europe. Contre l'avis du jeune roi Louis XVI, le marquis de La Fayette (19 ans) arme une frégate à ses frais et rejoint les Insurgents.

D'autres officiers se joignent au mouvement comme le commandant Pierre L'Enfant, qui jettera les plans de la future capitale, le général Louis Duportail, mais aussi le Prussien von Steuben, le Polonais Kosciusko ou l'Allemand de Kalb. Leur expérience militaire sera précieuse aux insurgés.

L'écrivain et espion Beaumarchais organise des envois d'armes à destination des insurgés avec l'approbation du ministre des Affaires étrangères, Vergennes, désireux de favoriser tout ce qui pourrait affaiblir l'ennemie héréditaire de la France, l'Angleterre.

Le soutien décisif apporté par les nobles libéraux et, un peu plus tard, par le roi Louis XVI en personne permettra aux insurgés d'emporter enfin la décision à Saratoga puis Yorktown.

Comme je suis vieux jeu et que ce que je pense de cette façon "d'habiter la fonction" ne déclenchera pas un mouvement de foule en ma faveur, je me refuse à dire quoi que ce soit de ce nouveau coup porté à la dignité de la fonction présidentielle. Même collatéral, le mal sera fait. Passons.

Cela dit, il me revient que la dernière fois qu'une artiste avait souhaité, en chanson, un joyeux anniversaire à un chef d'Etat, cela avait fait jaser.

Cette séquence est entrée dans l'Histoire pour les raisons que vous savez. Et c'est là que je m'interroge. Les choses de la vie,la vie artistisque tumultueuse de Carla, l'enjeu étant d'importance, tout cela nous amène à considérer que l'on est en droit de se poser des questions, non?

On mesure bien toutes les implications diplomatiques de l'affaire. Difficile alors pour le journaliste, compte tenu du contexte de tracer sans faillir la frontière entre privé et public. Cette cérémonie sera en effet suivie par les télévisions du monde entier. L'époux légal de Carla Bruni pourrait-il prendre ombrage de cette prochaine prestation? C'est le prestige de la France qui sera en jeu, donc le sien.

Je suis par conséquent conduit à poser les trois questions que le Monde entier se pose ce matin, et croyez moi, je pèse mes mots.

Secret Story 3 : la maman de Jonathan a été gravement malade

La soirée des candidats de Secret Story 3 était placée sous le thème des confidences. À l'invitation de la Voix, les habitants de la maison des Secrets étaient invités à se livrer à leurs colocataires. Chacun d'entre eux devait répondre à la question suivante : « Qu'avez-vous fait de plus fou par amour ? »

De toutes les histoires racontées par les candidats, celle de Jonathan a été la plus marquante. Le jeune homme a révélé que sa mère avait été atteinte à trois reprises par un cancer. La dernière fois, lorsqu'il avait 21 ans, Jonathan a décidé de mettre sa vie entre parenthèses durant un an et demi pour aider sa maman dans cette terrible épreuve.

Admiratif du courage de sa mère qui a réussi à vaincre une troisième fois sa terrible maladie, Jonathan s'est fait tatouer un phénix, l'oiseau fabuleux capable de renaître des ses cendres : « Tous les trois mois, je rajoute un petit bout sur ce tatouage pour me rappeler que sans cette personne, je ne me battrais pas aussi fort », a-t-il confié à ses petits camarades. En revanche son tee-shirt tranchait légèrement avec la gravité de l'histoire...

Voici les dernières images de Michael Jackson sur scène, deux jours avant son décès soudain. Le King of Pop était alors en pleine répétition pour la série de concerts qui devait commencer la semaine prochaine.

Le court extrait vidéo annonce la sortie prochaine d'un DVD (commercialisé par AEG, l'organisateur des concerts à l'O2 Arena de Londres) intitulé This Is It. On y retrouvera donc les dernières sessions de Michael, en grande partie celle du 23 juin, dont l'extrait est tiré. On attend la sortie du DVD pour les fêtes de Noël.

Désormais incontournable dans le paysage musical français, courtisé par le cinéma… Même Sharon Stone est fan du phénomène ! En mode comme en musique, il aime détourner les codes pour mieux se les approprier. Il nous livre sa philosophie du style.

Julien Doré arrive sur le shooting – au domicile de son agent – avec cette nonchalance qu’on lui connaît. Il porte un jean étroit, un T-shirt blanc à col V et des bottines. Antichrist a été présenté en Compétition au Festival de Cannes 2009. A cette occasion, Charlotte Gainsbourg a reçu le Prix d'interprétation féminine.

Lars von Trier expose sa manière de travailler le scénario de Antichrist : " Le travail sur le scénario n'a pas suivi mon mode opératoire habituel. Des scènes s'ajoutaient sans raison. Les images étaient composées en dehors de toute logique ou de toute réflexion dramatique. Elles provenaient souvent des rêves que je faisais à l'époque ou de rêves que j'avais faits à une époque antérieur de ma vie. [...]
